Karen's Off On Maternity Leave!
As some of you may know, a new Moyes family member is on its way and is expected late September. My maternity leave starts 3 September and I will be returning to CVS around mid June 2008. In the meantime, Karen Scott (known to many of you with her training hat on) will hold the fort for me while I’m on leave. If you have any development query, please contact Karen on 01249 654089 or karen@cvsnw.org.uk. For now, I’ll leave you in Karen’s capable hands and look forward to being in touch again after my return next summer. Karen Moyes
Friends of Doorway Fundraiser – Cliff Richards Tribute Night
The Friends of Doorway are organising a Cliff Richards Tribute Night on Saturday 22nd September 2007 in order to raise much needed funds for Doorway, the drop-in centre for homeless and marginalised adults in North Wiltshire. The entertainment will include Cliff’s greatest hits and a selection of rock and roll music commencing at 7.30pm at the Gladstone Liberal Club, Gladstone Road, Chippenham. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased by phoning Doorway on 01249 445385. David Clifford, who will be performing the tribute to Cliff Richards, was the youngest Town Councillor for Redlands in the early 1990’s and has appeared in the grand final of Stars in their Eyes.

Third Sector Review: Final Report Published
The final report from the Third Sector Review, the largest consultation ever undertaken with the sector, was published on Tuesday 24th July. We believe this demonstrates a significant shift in the Government’s approach to the voluntary and community sector and shows a deeper understanding of the sector in the context of wider civil society, rather than simply focussing on public services. The report backs a number of NCVO proposals including a Third Sector Research Centre and a skills strategy for the sector’s workforce. It contains a number of major announcements including a £50m local endowment fund, £117m investment in youth volunteering, £83m funding for Capacitybuilders and £10m investment in community anchor organisations. The Campaigning Effectiveness programme has done a briefing on the review looking more specifically at the implications for campaigners. Whilst welcoming the government’s commitment to reviewing the legal and regulatory campaigning environment, government could make explicit their understanding that the sector should assert its independence effectively. Further information and a full summary are available on NCVO's website.
