Summary of the Companies Act 2006

The huge Companies Act—the longest-ever piece of legislation in the UK, with 1300 sections—received royal assent on 8 November 2006. The Act repeals and either restates or changes about two-thirds of existing company legislation, and adds a lot of new law as well. And 1300 sections is not the end of it—there are 16 schedules, and much of the detail will be in regulations made during 2007 and 2008. Click here for a summary on the provisions that will affect the voluntary sector.

Tired? Stressed? Need a break?

Could you do with the chance to have a good natter with people who are facing the same stresses and strains as you, and understand where you are coming from?  Would a nice croissant and a latte help you feel better? If so, come and have breakfast on Wednesday 21st March, 8.30am, upstairs at the Little Shop Of Coffee, Market Place, Devizes.  This will be a gathering of female managers/sole workers in voluntary organisations who could do with a little sharing and giggling.  If you know someone who should be invited and hasn't been, pass it on. This is a strictly unofficial, informal affair.  No monitoring information will be required, no evaluation forms to complete, no governance structure to debate, no funding applications to make ....sounds good, eh? See you there. For more information contact Jenny Wildblood on 01380 729284.

Introducing Charge - A New Show For 16 - 25 Year Olds

The Community Channel are launching a new show called Charge that will be broadcast on the Community Channel from April 2007. Charge is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 25 and will largely consist of content produced by the target audience - short films, documentaries and independent music videos. The show also has a strong social community element and there are three ways that your organisation can engage with the programme:- 1 - We would like one of your young volunteers to tell us their story and how your organisation has impacted on their life. 2 - We would like a representative of your organisation to be interviewed about the role, function and vision of your institution, this could be either your chief exec, a patron or someone from the communications department. 3 - Our show is also presented by a revolving group of young people and we would be happy to see anyone who would like to have a go at presenting. The show will be running on the Community Channel 28 times a week for a year and there will be more that one opportunity for your organisation to take part. Please click here to download some information about the show and some details of some of the regular features within the show and if you are interested in being represented in Charge please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss this further.
