Call for Sector to Prepare for GET ON BOARD Trustee Campaign

The Governance Hub, Charity Commission and Volunteering England have joined together to call on the sector to register their trustee vacancies and prepare to recruit new board members. The call to action is in anticipation of a trustee recruitment campaign, Get On Board. The campaign, led by the Governance Hub with the Charity Commission and Volunteering England as partners, will be launched to the public in January 2007. Get on Board aims to inspire more people, from a range of backgrounds, to consider becoming a trustee in the voluntary and community sector. Click here for more details.

Want to Have a Say in the Future of North Wiltshire?

NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! The North Wiltshire Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) are in the process of writing an action plan on the 8 themes of the Community Strategy for North Wiltshire. They would like to have a good representation from the voluntary sector to ensure they capture the needs of the entire community. The 8 themes are:

·               Social Care & Health

·               Countryside & Land Based Issues

·               Housing & The Built Environment

·               Economy

·               Transport

·               Crime & Community Protection

·               Education, Skills & Learning

·               Culture

If your organisation works in any of these areas or feels that it has a contribution to make regarding one or more of these themes, the LSP would like to hear from you. In order to keep everybody’s time commitment to a minimum, it is expected that two meetings on each theme, spread over the next two months, will be enough. If you want more information or would like to participate, please get in touch with the Voluntary Sector Forum representative on the LSP, Katie Ford. Katie can be reached by email on katieford@redcross.org.uk or by telephone on 0117 3012612.

Empowering the Voluntary Sector

Are you facing funding cuts from your local authority? Have you ever had a service level agreement terminated before the end date, without consultation? Are the public bodies you deal with not playing fair? NAVCA are working in partnership with the Public Law Project to support voluntary and community organisations in dealing with the issues that arise from dealings with public bodies. The project, Empowering the Voluntary Sector, is offering training via one day workshops to help identify the public law wrongs that can occur and identity the actions that can be taken. The cost of the workshop is £25 per person. Follow this web link for venues for workshops over the next few months. More venues will be added soon. http://www.navca.org.uk/services/learningopps/evs.htm The project also provides a free legal advice line where you will be able to discuss the public law problems being faced by your organisation with a lawyer from the public law project. The lawyer will be able to help identify the actions that will help your organisation, its projects and the service users.

Really Creative Training - New Workshops

When Really Creative Training was established in 1992, one of our main aims was to provide 'high quality, effective and affordable training' to voluntary, statutory and other not-for-profit organisations from around the UK. We only work in this particular sector as we believe that training for organisations like yours should be delivered by people who understand the work that you do, the pressures and challenges you face, and the client group that you serve. We have a 13 year proven track record of achieving this aim. Some of our latest workshops include: Diversity & Equality, Winning Friends & Influencing People, The Confident Presenter, and more. Age Discrimination is Against the Law from 1 October 2006

On the first of October, The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations came into place to protect all employees from discrimination and harassment on the grounds of age. The legislation will give individuals of all ages new rights not to be discriminated against in relation to employment and vocational training. In order to help organisations prepare for the new regulations, the UK Workforce Hub has drawn together a list of free resources that offers booklets, frequently asked questions, fact sheets, checklists, toolkits and newsletters. To access this free list of resources, please visit the UK Workforce Hub website, or for a hard copy, contact Mary Davies - Employment Practice Project Officer on email: Mary.Davies@ukworkforcehub.org.uk
