Funding - Wiltshire Funders Local Funders - BANES Please find below a sample of funders who fund voluntary and community groups in Wiltshire and a selection of those who fund groups based in North Wiltshire. Up to and including £1,000 may be available for small projects, where there will be no need for you to find matched funding and applications for the whole project can be considered. For funding requests over £1,000 financial support from other sources must be identified (matched funding), which can be made up or in part by contributions in kind. No more than 50% of the total cost of a project will be awarded. Funding For: To help provide facilities, equipment and activities that are important to the local community. Projects should demonstrate a link to local priorities/community plan and evidence of an identified community need. Involvement of your local Councillor is desirable. This includes projects where orders/instructions have been agreed and resources committed; Projects which could reasonably be expected to secure finance by other means. How To Apply: Download the full guidance from the above website. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their project with the Community Area Manager in advance of submitting an application. A list of Area Managers is given in the Guide to Funding Community Awards at the above webpage. Applicants are encouraged to make electronic applications which may be found on the Council's website www.wiltshire.gov.uk . Otherwise paper applications remain acceptable. When To Apply: Applications will be considered at each Area Board meeting, applications must be received a minimum of 6 weeks before the relevant Area Board. THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION for WILTSHIRE & SWINDON An independent charity (based in Devizes) formed in 1991 and dedicated to strengthening local communities by awarding grants to local charities and voluntary groups in the County of Wiltshire and the Borough of Swindon. Their aim is to make the area a better place to live in, by supporting voluntary and community groups that help people in need to develop their potential and overcome problems and barriers. In the financial year to March 2010, the Community Foundation awarded grants totalling £913,000 to 255 local projects and individuals. The Foundation manage a variety of funding programmes from Programmes for voluntary lead groups to Education funds for individuals. Below is a list of current programmes. Funding Type: £1000 - £5000. Larger grants for exceptional projects.
Funding For: Projects which take a creative approach to issues such as education & neighbourhood improvements, economic development, youth development, community problem solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation, cultural enrichment
Funding NOT For: Salaries, publicity campaigns or general running costs, individuals, national or regional organisations unless the project addresses specific local community needs, promotion of religion, endowment funds, general appeals or multi-year campaigns, medical or research organisations, animal charities. Schools, public or private, preschools and after-school clubs and uniformed groups such as scouts or guides, except to schools catering for children with disabilities or complex needs.

Funding NOT For: Individuals; Trips/holidays or projects abroad; Medical treatment or medical research;Unspecified expenditure; Deficit funding or the repayment of loans; Projects which are unable to start within twelve months; Distribution to another/other organisations; General appeal funds;Regional organisations - unless the branch can demonstrate the local expenditure of money based on a specific project to meet local needs; Animal charities; Pre- schools or Playgroups - excluding schools for special needs.; PTA's or 'Friends' of local schools - excluding schools for special needs.
Who Can Apply: Voluntary or community groups and charities. (You may be a registered charity or group, but this is not essential. Your group must however be a formally constituted organisation with written aims and objectives, a management committee of at least three people and a separate bank account with at least two signatories).

Funders Overall Aim: To support small informal voluntary and community groups and organisations, many of who are dependent on volunteers. The Community Foundation particularly welcomes applications from groups that have not had a grant of any kind before.
Funding Type: Capital and revenue grants of between £250 and £5,000 as a one-off payment or over more than one year, up to 2011
Funding For: Capital and revenue costs.
Who Can Apply: Not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community groups who have been active in the local community for not less than 12 months; Income over the last 3 years (or over the group's life if haven't been running for 3 years) of less than £30,000 per year on average; be volunteer led, i.e. most of work is being done by volunteers rather than paid staff; be connected with and/or meeting the needs of their local community; have a governing document (though the group does not have to be a registered charity).
How To Apply: Visit the website www.wscf.org.uk and follow the links to the 'Expression of Interest Form'. You will then be contacted to let you know if you are eligible to apply to Grassroots or any of the other Community Foundation Funds.
When To Apply: There will be quarterly grants meetings. Next closing date is 27 November 2009.

Funders Overall Aim: To make our area a better place to live in, by supporting voluntary and community groups that help people in need to develop their potential and overcome problems and barriers.
Funding Type: You can apply for either £3,000 per year for up to three years (£9,000 overall) or £5,000 per year for up to two years (£10,000 overall).
Funds Distributed: £724,600 (2007/08)
Funding For: Groups can apply to Main Grants to support a wide variety of project, core and ongoing costs. All applications need to show how they will make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people under our criteria headings; Supporting Community Care - working especially with: service users. e.g. frail older people, and disabled people, and carers e.g. those caring at home for older or disabled relatives, neighbours or friends; Tackling Isolation - working in particular to improve access to services and information; Investing in Young People - concentrating on the 12 - 25 age group.
Funding NOT For: Large building projects.
Who Can Apply:Local charities and voluntary and community groups.
How To Apply: Contact by telephone, email or complete the Expression of Interest form on the website with details of your group, your project and the size of grant you need. If you are eligible, you will be sent the relevant application pack.
When To Apply: Decisions for Main Grants can take up to 4 months. Next application deadline is 27 November 2009.

Funders Overall Aim: To empower local people enabling them to create lasting change in their communities.
Funding For: To support community groups running projects that:
This work can cover a small geographical area such as a housing estate or village but will also consider work covering a larger area such as a town or borough where there is evidence of community involvement. Projects should be run by local people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community. This can also include "Communities of Interest" which will cover a wider geographical area. They want 50% of funds to go to sports projects that:
Funding NOT For: Individuals; statutory organisations including schools; to fund trips abroad; to fund buses, mini buses or other community transport schemes (not including transport costs forming part of a project); to fund building costs, including access adaptions to buildings.
Who Can Apply: Community groups, residents associations, community centres, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies and credit unions.
How To Apply: Complete an expression of interest form on the website, they will let you know if you are eligible for this fund and or any other funds. If appropriate they will send you an application pack.
